1881 Land Act

Source:
Cork Archives
Date:
1885

Description:

This is an official document created as a result of the 1881 Land Act. The agreement is made between Arthur Hugh Smith-Barry of Fota and Richard Scanlan of Barrafahona.

The setting up of Land Courts was undertaken as part of the 1881 Land Act. Neither landlords or tenants were entirely happy with the arrangements, landlords feeling that the rent reductions provided were too generous, and tenants feeling that the reductions were not generous enough.
